Ayurveda about Sciatica
Also known as Gridhrasi in Ayurveda , Sciatica According to Ayurveda happens due to two suspected reasons, either its due to vata dosha or due to ama in our body or both.
Vata dosha by its nature is free flowing in the body, its imbalance and increased level at particular regions in the body may cause problems, so when it gets stagnant in the lower back it may affect the sciatic nerve and cause pain.
Another reason could be ama imbalance due to improper digestion, the accumulation of ama in body channels may also lead to Sciatica.
The line of treatment depends on chronicity and severity; the condition can be cured either by just medication or by Panchakarma for severe/old cases. Light exercise, Yoga and diet can help reduce pain and boost recovery.
When pain travels from the lower back to toe via the hips, hamstrings, and calf muscles- the condition is known as Sciatica. This is a painful condition where the patient suffers from severe pain. And most of the time when sciatica occurs because of the compression due to bulging or slipped disc- the common recommendation from neurosurgeons will be complicated Neurosurgery!!
Nobody is willing to opt for surgery in general. And when it is all about neurosurgery, the risk makes it scarier. And in hard times- this is Ayurveda that comes in rescue. Ayurvedic treatment for sciatica is not only promising but also is aimful to solve the underneath cause. When you have sciatica due to a slipped disc or any other reason- Ayurveda provides a permanent solution for your problem.
In this article we will shed some light on Sciatica, a painful condition of the lower body that generally affects the 40+ age group. The sciatic nerve is the largest nerve in the human body. It starts in your lower back and splits to run through your hips, buttocks, legs, and feet on both sides. Any type of pain and/or neurological symptom that originates from the sciatic nerve is referred to as sciatica also known as sciatic neuralgia or sciatic neuropathy.
The small bones (vertebrae) that make up our backbone/spine are separated by round disks, when these disks get worn out and protrude out they may put pressure on the surrounding nerves. When the affected nerve is the Sciatic nerve; it leads to a painful experience.
The main characteristic of Sciatica is pain that radiates from your lower (lumbar) back to your buttock and down the back of your leg.
The patient will experience pain of varying degree, from mild ache to excruciating pain, coughing, sneezing, sitting for longer times may increase the pain, some patients feel numbness or muscle weakness in the legs too.
Sciatica occurs when the sciatic nerve gets pinched or pressured, usually by a herniated disk in your spine or by an overgrowth of bone (bone spur) on your vertebrae.
